Habitat for Humanity – Downtown Church Build

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Building on Faith—Habitat for Humanity International’s annual celebration of church partnerships. Trinity will be joining eight other downtown churches to build in our community the fourth Downtown Church Build house.

Each church’s membership is asked to provide:

  • 4 week days of labor
  • 4 days of lunches
  • one Saturday of labor
  • and $2800.

The ground breaking will be in July. Once that date is set, we will get a schedule for Trinity and ask for volunteers. Remember, regardless of our skills, there is an opportunity for involvement for everyone. Once we have a schedule, we will post it at church and on line. Work site volunteers will be asked to work ½ day. Lunch volunteers will provide for 6 to 10 people and suggested menus are pizza or subs with cookies and drinks.

Habitat homes are built with partner families who must work on the construction (350 sweat equity hours) and then pay for their home with manageable monthly payments. The home we are building is in partnership with Amy and Jimmy Wolford and will be located in Guyandotte on the corner of 35th Street and Fourth Avenue. They currently live in a trailer in Apple Grove. The Wolfords are parents of a 7 year old daughter and are expecting a baby in July.

We at Trinity have already raised $1300 of our $2800 pledge for this project. We need $1500 to complete our obligation. A gift envelope is enclosed in the Trinitarian for your contribution which will help a very deserving young family have their own home. Any size gift will be appreciated and help us reach our goal.

I will keep you posted as plans become more definite. Being able to help provide a home for a family is a special opportunity and a privilege. See you at the construction site.
